Ears, continued................................

Yesterday, I thought maybe we would have a little break. Get into the routine with Makenzie's medicine. Oh no, had to take Porter to the doctor. On a Saturday no less. After I farmed the other two out (thank you, thank you, Brad&Becca and Scott&Tessy), found out that Porter has a double ear infection. And please don't say I should have known, no fever and no pulling on the ear. Now we have four bottles of the same medicine with two different dosages in the fridge. Luckily, they are both 10 day doses and they are almost the same 10 days. Like I said before, I can't image adding more kids into the mix. I take my hat off to mother's of multiples and mother's with more then three.

Do your ears hang low?

I have decided out of all the things to dislike about being a mother I choose the medical/doctor 'stuff'. Honestly, I don't even have a ton of it to deal with. I see my friend who has more then her fair share in this category, but I still have to complain. (I will vent for her.) When I see families with 6 kids I am floored. How does a mother keep all the medical together. Just getting a well check appointment can be a nightmare. Not to mention all the doctors who insist that a child has to run a fever to have an ear infection.

Which brings me to the past 24 hours. Makenzie woke up last night crying saying that her ear hurt. Great! She has had a stuffy nose and with this my little girl will inevitably get an ear infection. The pediatrician we go to is almost impossible to get an appointment with. I don't think I should have to go to urgent care for an ear infection (which I have, by the way). She woke up this morning in tears saying her ear hurt. No fever. Never a fever.

I finally had to take matters and kick some butt. I called a pediatrician here in Sahuarita/Green Valley at 8:30am to see if they are taking patients, I got an appointment at 10:30am. We got there at 10:15am and left at 11:15am. Ever since living in AZ, I have to say, that is the shortest appointment ever for my kids. The doctor didn't knock my socks off, but who cares. She has an ear infection, she has had too many in the past 6 months, bring her back in 3 weeks for a check, she will probably need to go see a specialist. (Literally that was pretty much all he said.) Woohoo! My kinda doctor. And I didn't have to drive an hour, wait an hour, and drive back an hour. Epic I tell you! My pediatrician appointments have been epic long adventures!

If this works out, I might just sit down in the bathroom and have a little cry. A small victory, but still an addition to tackling the 'nothing jobs'.

'Pinewood Derby Days'

My husband is in Cub Scouts, although my son is only 6. Seems weird, but I think it is preparation for what is to come. Pinewood Derby was tonight. Logan wants to go with dad so bad to 'Scouts' every week. He was so excited not only that he got to go to 'Scouts', but you should of seen the look on his face when the first set of cars raced.

I have to say I think that these types of moments are when being a mom is fun. Not just that he was excited, but that something so simple (to us adults) puts that much joy into his little body. Makenzie, 3, and Porter, 2, thought the whole event just as mesmerizing.

We as parents have a lot of forces pushing us from all sides to give the best to our children. The more the better, the bigger the better, the more expensive the better. Somehow this is not what I think our Heavenly Father wants us to instill into our children. I think it takes 'Pinewood Derby Days' to stop and reflect.

My children would love to go to Disneyland (I have no doubt of this). As a matter of fact, I would love to go to Disneyland. This kind of trip is just not in the cards at this juncture. As much as I hate to tell 'ya guys; it doesn't take a 6 hour car ride, gas money, expensive 3 day passes, roller coasters, mouse hats, hotels, and princesses to make our children happy. Today watching little scouts, helped by big scouts, race some little funky wooden cars they made (with the utmost of care), painted in all fashion, is all it took to astound and thrill a little 6 year old redheaded boy.

Another day in the life....

So today was another day of 'run around until you drop'. Then when you drop there a couple of more things that need to be taken care of; i.e., pick up the duplos in front of the bathroom before you step on them again, or just kick them next to the door into a pile. None of these things are really, what one would call, 'fun'.

Why do the 'nothing' jobs take up so much time. When someone asks you what you did today, what do you say? Um, nothing. But not really, in fact your whole day was crammed. There just wasn't one specific project that was able to be completed. Ahhhh, a project. I forget what one is. Ahhhhh, complete. I forget what this is.

I would document what my day consisted of, but I don't think you would really care. Most of you out there are probably filling your head with guesses. You know exactly the kind of tasks I speak of, because I think you have the same nothing that fills your life. Mom's out there will understand that most of these jobs mainly consist of bodily fluids, food, or garbage. All day long!!!!!! I am not quite sure how the little people in my life are able to be the nuclei of an atomic explosion. I see no effects of nuclear fall out. It is truly amazing. If you don't have children, I highly recommend borrowing some just for the shear science of it.

I want to go to bed, but I am afraid of tomorrow. Another chaotic day filled with trying to make as much money as possible and trying to please people. Two things that are never accomplished no matter how much time you have.

The Girl in a Whirl

This was read in Relief Society today and I don't know if I even need to comment. This is how I feel I should be and if I did it how I would end up. Read this to the rhythm of 'Oh the places you'll go' by Dr. Seuss. The irony is, I believe, on purpose.

The Girl in a Whirl
by ‘Dr. Sue’ (a.k.a. Vickie Gunther)

Look at me, look at me, look at me now!
You could do what I do
If you only knew how.
I study the scriptures one hour each day;
I bake,
I upholster,
I scrub,
and I pray.
I always keep all the commandments completely;
I speak to my little ones gently and sweetly.
I help in their classrooms!
I sew all they wear!
I drive them to practice!
I cut all their hair!
I memorize names of the General Authorities;
I focus on things to be done by priorities.
I play the piano!
I bless with my talents!
My toilets all sparkle!
My checkbooks all balance!
Each week every child gets a one-on-one date;
I attend all my meetings (on time! Never late!)

I’m taking a class on the teachings of Paul,

But that is not all! Oh, no. That is not all .
I track my bad habits ’til each is abolished;
Our t-shirts are ironed!
My toenails are polished!
Our family home evenings are always delightful;
The lessons I give are both fun and insightful.
I do genealogy faithfully, too.
It’s easy to do all the things that I do!
I rise each day early, refreshed and awake;
I know all the names of each youth in my stake!
I read to my children!
I help all my neighbors!
I bless the community, too, with my labors.
I exercise and I cook menus gourmet;
My visiting teaching is done the first day!
(I also go do it for someone who missed hers.
It’s the least I can do for my cherished ward sisters.)
I chart resolutions and check off each goal;
I seek each “lost lamb” on my Primary roll.
I can home-grown produce each summer and fall.
But that is not all! Oh, no. That is not all .
I write in my journal!
I sing in the choir!
Each day, I write “thank you’s” to those I admire.
My sons were all Eagles when they were fourteen!
My kids get straight A’s!
And their bedrooms are clean!
I have a home business to help make some money;
I always look beautifully groomed for my honey.
I go to the temple at least once a week;
I change the car’s tires!
I fix the sink’s leak!

I grind my own wheat and I bake all our bread;
I have all our meals planned out six months ahead.
I make sure I rotate our two-years’ supply;
My shopping for Christmas is done by July!
These things are not hard;
’tis good if you do them;
You can if you try!
Just set goals and pursue them!
It’s easy to do all the things that I do!
If you plan and work smart, you can do them all, too!
It’s easy!” she said
and then she dropped dead.

Sisters

So this is my sister and me. I have thought a lot about her lately and I wonder, sometimes, how life is hard for each of us in different ways. She was very strong and never understood her strength. I find a parallel not only in myself, but I think we all do this to some extent. It is so hard not to think about just running away sometimes. The problem with running away is you can't really hide. You will be found. This often times causes more problems then if you would of just stayed put to begin with. What is the answer? Not quite sure yet. All I know is right now I really, kinda, wanna, run away. Unfortunately, the catastrophic aftermath of this would be, I believe, not covered by insurance of any kind, and the devastation would be unfixable. I have been through enough in life to know that hard work and patience will reap answers and solutions. My problem is I am not patient and right now I don't know how much harder I can work. Both physically and mentally. Maybe tomorrow will have more answers....or maybe just more waiting. I feel more like a walk. Maybe a sunrise will inspire some new beginnings in old places.

Well......here we are. Just you and me.

So...I...don't know really to begin. I am a 33 year old, wife, mother of 3 and living in the dessert. I am educated and passionate about my life. Or so I thought. I guess I was passionate. All of that has changed and I am trying to find where I 'am'.

I love photography, but rarely get to photograph even my children. I thought this would be a good way to communicate with my mother, specifically, on a more regular basis. Hopefully, my niece will read also. Other than that, just wanted to send words out into the abyss.
